The Sad Ecstasy of Being Right

The bitter sweet sensation, is like a drug for those that've felt the scorn of being condemned for daring to speak what others don't want to see. To cover ourselves with the knowledge of being right and comfort ourselves from that scorn is but a poor substitute. It's easy to be right. If you've ever felt the scorn of being rejected for seeing the truth you know the seductive ecstasy of hiding behind the "I told you so." It's easy to be right. The drug-like effects comfort you in the cold loneliness. You feel vindicated, the lone-hero, the one who saw where other failed to see. Yet it's a sad song to hear, a bitter comfort, for the real power lies in being convincing. Lately I've heard interviews with Paul Krugman, nobel prize winning economists, about how he is mostly right about his economic predictions. I thought to myself, what a way to go for the low hanging fruit. The dare, the challenge, is to be convincing. To not just say what's ...

Superman Story: The Collector

Inspired by this story by Xeni , of mentally disabled man who had his collection of Superman memorabilia stolen, I decided to write a Superman story for him. So this short story is dedicated to all people who transcend their limitation be them physical or mental to build beauty in their lives.  Note: This is a rough un-corrected draft. Please pardon the typos, sometimes it's fun to read those too. :) The Collector part one The sky above was azure blue, one of those days when the clouds disappear and just a blue ball of sky with a puncture for the Sun exist. Clark Kent floated above Metropolis in his Superman alter-ego. His eagle-eye vision allowed him to focus with precision on any section of the vast city below him and he quickly circled around. Surprisingly quiet day. It was hot and muggy and most people had chosen to be in the indoors air-conditioner cooled sanctuaries. But Clark was not at all bothered by the heat. He didn't sweat from heat, never had. He stood sti...

Contrasting Styles of Writing: English vs. Spanish

There is interestingly enough a big difference between what's considered good writing in Spanish and English . V.S. Naipul winner of the 2001 Nobel prize for literature publish an article on writing . In it he emphasizes the use of short clear sentences and encourages the lack of adjectives and adverbs. Essentially he pushes the writer to abandon florid language and master spartan communication . This is a desired feature of English prose , where short clipped sentences are the norm and seamlessly flow into a paragraph. In English prose the paragraph is the unit the writer cares about the most. This is not the case in Spanish where whole short stories (I'm thinking this was Gabriel Garcia Marquez but maybe it was Cortázar) are written in one sentence. Something so difficult to do in English that the expert translator could best manage to encapsulate the tale in two sentences. The florid language is what is considered good writing in Spani...

"Lol" Officially enters the Lexicon

Do you lol in public? OMG that's so rude... Joining words like SUV, ATV, WiFi, SciFi, LoFi, HiFi, and other acronyms, now we have the internet as a generator of acronyms that have entered the lexicon. The Oxford English dictionary has added the word "lol" to its pages along with "omg" and "fyi." But lol is special since it can be pronounced 'lol' not just in spell-o-speak 'elle-oh-elle' like the others. "Lol" is it's own word now. That's kinda cool. Just don't be a n00b with it and go saying it everywhere. Lol. I (heart) you bee. And remember no everyone speaks English natively and like bee why oh bee (Wherefore art thou bee?) can leave a biology student who is studying bees rather confused. Oh and TGIF.

Seeking...

I'm looking for certain things, thought making a list would help. 1. I'm looking for an open-minded committed reader for a comic-book I'm writing.  Writing a comic book was my summer project. Summer has ended and my project languished, (my fault totally, gotta let it go). One of the reasons was that I was unable to get a reader for it. One reader, I regrettably lost contact with; and the other reader was a guy who was a fan of the comic-book series I'm writing for, but he loved the series so much, he hated where I wanted to go it. So  I've added "open-minded" to the title. My best writing flows when it feels like play, like sitting down and toying with something until it's cool. I'd like to get that state easily, like switching on a light in a room filled with interesting stuff. 2. I'm looking for work that will best use my abilities and talents, that's full-filling, fun, and financially rewarding. 3. Work out buddy to motivate making time ...
